PT PLN (Persero) noted that transactions at public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) increased five times during the period of Eid homecoming and return to Lebaran 2024.
As of Thursday (18/4) or D+7 Lebaran 2024, the number of transactions at SPKLU has reached 11,377 transactions, a five-fold increase compared to 2023 which was 2,275 transactions.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo in his statement in Jakarta, Sunday, said that the provision of SPKLU was one of the main focuses that the company paid attention to in the 2024 Eid holiday period.
PLN itself has alerted 1,299 SPKLU units spread across 879 locations to meet the needs of charging travelers using electric vehicles.
"People's interest in using electric vehicles is increasing. PLN answers this need by providing SPKLU facilities at every strategic point and all rest areas on the homecoming route. We want people to experience a safe and comfortable homecoming using electric vehicles," Darmawan said as quoted by Antara.
In line with the increase in transactions at SPKLU, the number of electricity consumption has also increased. PLN noted that the realization of electricity consumption in SPKLU until D+7 Lebaran 2024 reached 226.5 megawatt hour (MWh) or an increase of 5.2 times compared to 43.5 MWh in 2023.
"During Eid al-Fitr homecoming, we have also alerted more than 3,500 officers at each SPKLU who help electric car users when charging so that electric car users can be more comfortable," said Darmawan.

This commitment is also in line with efforts to support the energy transition from fossil fuel-based vehicles to environmentally friendly electric vehicles.
To increase the comfort of electric vehicle users during the Eid 2024 holiday period, PLN has also added several features to the PLN Mobile application so that the public using electric vehicles is more comfortable in traveling long distances.
"We present the planner feature at PLN Mobile. Our brothers and sisters can make long-distance travel plans using electric vehicles so they are not worried about determining and looking for SPKLU locations," said Darmawan.
He also predicts that electric vehicle users will continue to increase. For this reason, PLN will continue to ensure that the existing SPKLU can operate optimally.
