JAKARTA - Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita is ready to facilitate business matching to adjust the needs of the components Apple needs in Indonesia.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita explained that business matching is faster to do when compared to the option of building an Apple device manufacturing factory in Indonesia.

"The Ministry of Industry will carry out the 'business matching' process. We already have a list of any components, 'cellphone components' that have been produced in Indonesia that we may be able to pair, called 'business matching'," said the Minister of Industry quoting Antara.

The Minister of Industry said that the President wanted the giant technology company from the United States to expand its business in Indonesia.

The President wants Apple to be able to build factories in Indonesia, in addition to existing and current investments, namely the development of digital talent through the Apple Academy.

The Indonesian government and Apple have also agreed that manufacturing development is needed so that Indonesia becomes a player from Apple's supply chain in the world.

Agus explained that in addition to building factories, business matching can be done because Apple can take advantage of components, such as batteries, cables and others that have been produced in Indonesia.

"So there are two (options) when it comes to manufacturing, starting from factories themselves or using those produced in Indonesia with various specifications adjustments," said Agus.

Meanwhile, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi explained that of the 360 components needed to produce Apple products, only 2 components are available in Indonesia.

"So the 360 components are only two from Indonesia, compared to Vietnam (having) 72 (components). The President also asked Tim Cook if there could be more components from Apple made in Indonesia," said Budi Arie.

On the other hand, the process for Indonesia to become a supplier of Apple products takes a long time, such as Vietnam, which has been one of the "benchmarks" for 20 years, while China has been running for 30 years.
