The Ministry Of PUPR Completes The Duplication Of The Kapuas I Bridge In West Kalimantan Worth IDR 275.5 Billion

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has completed the duplication of the Kapuas I Bridge in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, on Thursday, March 21.

The 430 meter (m) long bridge with a width of 8 m has been completed by the Ministry of PUPR with a budget of IDR 275.7 billion.

Director General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR Hedy Rahadian said the construction of the Kapuas I Bridge Duplication was carried out in order to unravel congestion on the Pontianak city road network.

"Alhamdulillah, after President Jokowi inaugurated, the bridge is ready to operate. We will hand over the traffic arrangements to the local Transportation Service," Hedy said in a written statement, quoted on Friday, March 22.

The Ministry of PUPR will then also handle several matters related to the operation of the Kapuas I Bridge Duplication.

"Later, we will widen the canal road from this bridge to 4 lanes, now we have programed it on SBSN. Hopefully this year we can start and no later than next year we will also arrange junctions to maneuver container trucks," he said.

Meanwhile, Director of Bridge Development of the Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR Budi Harimawan also added that in addition to reducing congestion, the duplication of the Kapuas I Bridge will also reduce the burden of the old bridge that has been operating since 1982.

"The duplication of the Kapuas I Bridge was built in a steel frame and completed within 570 days with the implementation period of August 2022-March 2024. The implementing contractor is PT Wijaya Karya," he said.
