JAKARTA - President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo said that his party had calculated the cost needs to be incurred in order to realize the target of EBT generators by 2040.
Darmawan said that pursuing this target, Indonesia needed at least 152 billion US dollars or Rp2,300 trillion.
"The price tag was calculated yesterday at around 152 million US dollars. So if you multiply 15,000, around Rp2,300 trillion between today and 2040," Darmawan said in his remarks at the Road to PLN Investment Days 2024 at the Mulia Senayan Hotel, Wednesday, March 6.
Darmawan detailed that the funds were used to build 30 gigawatts (GW) of Hydroelectric Power Plants (PLTA) and Geothermal Power Plants (PLTP), Bayu Power Plants (PLTB) and Solar Power Plants (PLTS) of 28 GW.
Furthermore, Darmawan said that through his latest Electric Power Supply Business Draft (RUPTL), PLN is also targeting to increase the capacity of EBT and gas plants by 80 gigawatts (GW) by 2040.
"Until 2040, the total power of power plants is around 80 GW," said Darmawan.

Darmawan detailed, of the 80 GW targeted generators, 75 percent of the power plants are based on new and renewable energy, while the other 25 percent are gas-based.
Darmawan said, with the large target and potential of the EBT owned by Indonesia, his party needed to build transmission on a larger scale. Moreover, he said, sources with electricity demand are in different locations.
"It turns out that the potential plant is in North Sumatra, in Aceh, but the demand is in Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java. How far is the transmission? 3500 kilometers, that is the backbone," Darmawan explained.
Darmawan also said that his party had calculated the need for transmission to connect electricity sources with demand locations. It is estimated that the total transmission length when connected to other areas can reach 47,000 kilometers.
"If you want to travel around the earth with me, it's 42,500 around the earth, plus 5 thousand more, 47,500. So, in this case, there is a massive infrastructure development," concluded Darmawan.
