This Is The Reason The Government Removes Electricity Import Export Rules From Rooftop PLTS To PLN

JAKARTA - Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Jisman P Hutajulu explained the reason the government removed the regulation on exports of electricity imports produced by the Roof Solar Power Plant (PLTS) to PT PLN (Persero) to reduce electricity bills.

As is known in the Ministerial Regulation (Permen) of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 2 of 2024 concerning Rooftop PLTS Connected to the Electricity Network for Electric Power Supply Business License Holders for Public Interest, the government removed the net mettering policy so that the excess electricity generated by the Roof PLTS does not enter the PLN network and does not reduce customer taginance.

Jisman said the export-import rules were removed because the use of the Rooftop PLTS from houses was not very large or only 2-3 percent per year.

"Why not? We dare not issue exports because of the fact that from 149 MW for these households, it turns out that the exports are not more than 2-3 percent of the numbers from PLN," said Jisman when met by media crews at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Office, Tuesday, March 5.

Just so you know, PLN recorded that until January 2024 the realization of the installation capacity of the Indonesian Rooftop PLTS reached 149 Megawatt peak (MWp) with a total of 8,575 customers dominated by household customers.

Jisman said that the electricity produced by PLTS Roofs from household customers had actually been used up for their own needs so that the import export rules were abolished from the latest regulations.

"So that's what makes us more confident that we will eliminate it (the regulation for exporting electricity imports). Later it won't be charged at what costs, the cost of selling (parallel operations)," explained Jisman.

With the abolition of the regulation, Jisman hopes that the public can calculate their electricity needs and be adjusted to the installed roof of the PLTS.

"It's running electricity but it's not counted. So later we hope that the household can calculate the needs properly," concluded Jisman.
