BOJONEGORO - ExxonMobil Cepu Limited (EMCL) has again drilled after 8 years without increasing the number of wells since 2015.

"This project is from information starting in 2001 and it turns out that it has just started production in 2015," said Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin in his remarks at the Banyu Urip Infil Classic Sumur Tax in Bojonegoro, Friday, March 1.

Arifin explained, initially the potential oil in Banyu Urip was estimated at 400 million barrels of oil, but to date, 630 million barrels of oil have been produced.

Despite having the potential for fantastic reserves, Arifin said that since 2023 the Urip Banyu Square has continued to experience a decline in production.

"Earlier, there was no drilling and now there are 7 drills," continued Arifin.

For information, of the seven wells that will be drilled this year, five of them are carbonate wells while the rest are plastic wells. The drilling of these 7 wells will be carried out throughout this year with the start of production projected in June 2024.

Arifin hopes that from drilling infill and plastic wells, there will be an additional 20,000 to 30,000 barrels per day so that they can withstand production decline, and in the future it is hoped that the Plastic Field will produce the same as the Carbonat field.

We are proud to be able to continue working with Exxon, as the largest company in the world with Mumpuni experience and technology. We continue to collaborate with Exxon, including Carbon capture cooperation and other Exxon investment plans in Indonesia. We hope that with the maximum possible output from the Cepu field," concluded Arifin.
