PGN Develops Earth Gas Network At TOD MRT Jakarta

PT PGN Tbk as Pertamina Gas Subholding in collaboration with PT MRT Jakarta related to the plan to expand the use of urban gas networks along the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) of the DKI Jakarta MRT. This BUMN and BUMD synergy also reaches business opportunities to get new customers and improve program loyalty, both for MRT and PGN.

As a first step in exploring cooperation, PGN and MRT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for natural gas business cooperation in the MRT Jakarta TOD area, on Tuesday, February 20, in Jakarta. The MOU was signed by PGN's Director of Strategy and Business Development Rosa Permata Sari and MRT Business Development Director Farchad Mahfud.

"We are very enthusiastic about welcoming this collaboration, so that the use of natural gas can coexist with the MRT transit area. In this case, natural gas utilization services that can be collaborated such as gas networks for household and commercial needs along the Jakarta MRT route," said PGN Business Strategy and Development Director Rosa Permata Sari.

MRT Business Development Director Farchad Mahfud said that the MRT and PGN cooperation knitted between spatial and energy aspects. MRT Jakarta has 3 mandates, namely building transportation routes, operating and maintenance, as well as building businesses, including transit orientation areas around stations, including Lebak Bulus, Fatmawati, Dukuh Atas, until the end has been determined, namely Kota Tua.

In transit-oriented areas, in addition to optimizing local and private government land, MRT Jakarta also builds a public infrastructure area which must be considered in order to be self-funding.

"The key to self-funding is commercialization. Commercialization requires energy, both electricity, gas, internet and so on. This collaboration is important to build a strategic relationship between MRT and PGN in ensuring that in the future the need for the development of a new orientation area, natural gas can be channeled," said Farchad.

This PGN and MRT synergy is an effort to win-win to introduce as well as develop the PGN ecosystem in providing clean energy to MRT. PGN sees promising and complementary business potential.

The expansion of the natural gas network is an effort to increase the use of domestic and environmentally friendly energy towards the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target. In addition, the burden of energy import subsidies can be reduced, one of which is by collaborating with various parties in the use of natural gas in Indonesia.

"Strategic partnership with MRT, can complement PGN to carry out its vision of actively participating in developing natural gas utilization during the energy transition period. We view that until 2050, the role is still there and quite massive. Together with MRT, later there will also be the opportunity to build Jakarta with the use of environmentally friendly energy. In addition, we also have a business line not only in the gas sector and hopefully this collaboration can be further improved," concluded Rosa.
