JAKARTA - PT PGN Tbk has prepared the development of a household jargas program as support for the provision of clean energy in the State Capital (IKN). PGN is also ready to collaborate with various parties to build IKN in terms of natural gas infrastructure development.

Director of Sales & Operations of PT PGN Ratih Esti Prihatini conveyed PGN's readiness to synergize in the construction of jargas.

This he revealed during a visit to IKN with BPH Migas last week.

Ratih explained, the government mandated the construction of jargas to Pertamina as the Oil and Gas Holding in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP IKN). Then Pertamina assigned PGN as the Gas Subholding for its implementation. This means that gas networks will be utilized in residential areas or official houses for ministers to employees at IKN. In the early stages, jargas connections at IKN were prepared for 166 towers (ASN residences) and 34 ministerial landed houses.

"We are ready to be part of the solution to the use of clean energy in IKN and expand the use of natural gas for an environment that is greener and the impact of the multiplier effect on the environment and society can be further optimized. However, natural gas is the cleanest fossil energy which can be a solution for the transition of energy together with the use of other clean energy towards the New Renewable Energy era and the achievement of the NZE 2060 target," said Ratih, quoted on Tuesday, January 30.

Later, he said, the construction of gas lines in IKN is planned to be built in stages. In addition to government official houses, gas distribution networks are also aimed at commercial, government buildings, and other facilities. Later, natural gas STREAM pipes will be placed on a public network or Multi Utility Tunnel. MUT itself will be built by the Ministry of PUPR.

Natural gas will be supplied with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) sourced from Balikpapan or Bontang in eastern Kalimantan. Currently, PGN has carried out construction activities in the field and is targeted for completion in June 2024.

Support for the provision of natural gas by PGN for IKN is based on the vision of providing clean energy at IKN and the IKN policy as outlined in Law no. 3/2022, namely by a mixture of natural gas with hydrogen as a source of city gas.

The PGN portfolio in the East Kalimantan region will continue to be developed so that it can reach IKN and support IKN buffer areas so that the use of clean energy is wider and optimum. One of them, PGN through PT Pertagas manages integrated gas distribution including the Seintah-Balikpapan Earth Gas Transmission Pipeline 20 along 78 KM.

In the future, a new distribution network will connect the IKN gas distribution network with the Balikpapan Seinpah pipeline, so that gas distribution becomes more reliable.

Another development carried out by PGN is regarding CNG and LNG infrastructure for retail to distribute gas to the East Kalimantan region.

"PGN is ready to support the provision of reliable natural gas in order to support economic growth in the East Kalimantan region, and always synergize with IKN authorities together with other stakeholders in planning and developing natural gas clean energy at IKN," concluded Ratih.
