The Jabodebek LRT Officially Becomes A National Vital Object

The Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Railways has officially designated the Jabodebek LRT transportation mode as a list of Railway National Vital Objects (Obvitnas).

This determination is based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation Number: KP- DJKA 5 of 2024 dated January 8, 2024 concerning Determination of Land Transportation Vital Objects for Light Train/Light Rail Transit Jabodebek PT KAI (Persero).

The Manager of Public Relations of the Jabodebek LRT, Mahendro Trang Bawono, revealed that his party positively welcomed the determination of the Jabodebek LRT as Obvitnas, considering that the Jabodebek LRT has served more than 4.5 million users since it was officially operational.

"As a mode of rail transportation with modern technology, the Jabodebek LRT certainly has a strategic role and impact for its users," Mahendro said in an official statement, Monday, January 29.

Mahendro revealed that the process of determining the Jabodebek LRT as Obvitnas has been prepared since October last year. This determination has gone through various strict stages ranging from document inspections, discussions, to field verification by relevant stakeholders including the Directorate of Railway Safety, as well as involving the Indonesian National Police.

Furthermore, Mahendro said the Jabodebek LRT had an impact on countries in the economic, social and cultural fields. In addition, the Jabodebek LRT is also considered an important asset for the state, so security certainty is needed in carrying out its function as a modern transportation system in Indonesia.

With the stipulation of the Jabodebek LRT as Obvitnas, continued Mahendro, security operations will be carried out based on the principles of internal security and provisions in laws and regulations in the railway sector and guidelines for securing national vital objects.

"As a rail transportation system with the first automatic steering in Indonesia, security is needed for stations, office buildings and depots, lanes, and other operational facilities so that the Jabodebek LRT can operate properly. Determination as a vital national object is important to protect the assets of the Nation and the State," said Mahendro.

Mahendro also invited the public to participate in protecting the Jabodebek LRT. This is because the community has an important role in the sustainability of the Jabodebek LRT, including maintaining security.

"Not carrying out vandalism and reporting proactively if you know anything that has the potential to disrupt security around the Jabodebek LRT operational area," he explained.
