JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) targets presidential instructions regarding drinking water and sanitation to be issued in 2024.
"Hopefully the inpres will be issued in 2024," said Director General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR Diana Kusumastuti at the Road to 10th World Water Forum Press Conference: 'The urgency of Access to Drinking Water and Sanitation'," virtually, Tuesday, January 23.
Diana said the inpres had been signed by several ministers and currently its position is in the state secretariat.
"Hopefully we will carry out the inpres soon in 2024," he said.
He added that the inpres of drinking water and sanitation itself is in order to accelerate the achievement of piped water services through house connections (SR) to the community.
"If we look at the infrastructure of drinking water resources built by the central government here, there are still many that have not been utilized (idle). So, we have to channel these water resources to the community so that they can enjoy piped water," said Diana.
The Presidential Instruction is not only about drinking water, but also related to sanitation. Thus, later the PUPR Ministry will collect data in each area that does not yet have a house connection. Thus, the construction of a house connection to the community is financed by the inpres.
According to Diana, the achievement of providing access to proper drinking water and piping is still a common challenge in Indonesia.

"(This figure) is still far away (from the target)," he said.
The Ministry of PUPR is trying to have presidential instructions regarding drinking water and sanitation. This is to speed up household connections from water treatment plants (IPA) throughout Indonesia.
The Presidential Instruction will take effect in 2025. For the Presidential Instruction of drinking water and sanitation, the total requirement is IDR 16.6 trillion, which is intended not only to build water treatment infrastructure (IPA), but also to install connections to people's homes in order to achieve the target of 10 million SR.
