JAKARTA - The National Energy Council (DEN) said that in the preparation of the PP update Number 79 of 2014, nuclear would no longer be the last option but the equivalent of new and renewable energy.

"There are no more words as a last resort," said Secretary General of the National Energy Council (DEN) Djoko Siswanto during a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 17.

Djoko explained, to commercialize nuclear, Indonesia still has 19 requirements that have just been met and there are 3 requirements remaining, including the formation of the NEPIO or Nuclear Energy Program Invitation Organization (NEPIO), support from stakeholders and government policies.

Djoko further explained that he had written to President Joko Widodo as the chairman of the DEN to ask for directions regarding the formation of NEPIO.

As for now, he said, the Government has completed the preparation of the organizational structure for the acceleration team for the construction of Nuclear Power Plants (PLTN).

Just so you know, NEPIO is an organization recommended by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to commercialize nuclear.

On the same occasion, Djoko also leaked the organizational structure of the PLTN Development Acceleration Team, which will be chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, and the Daily Chair of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif.

"Then, members consist of the Chairman of the BRIN Steering Committee, the Minister/Head of the Related Institution, members of the DEN, the Chair of the Nuclear Technology Development Council (MPTN). Then from the Secretariat there is the Deputy Chairperson of the Daily who leads the team and working groups (pokja)," concluded Djoko.
