AirNav Predicts Aircraft Movement Will Increase 24 Percent On Christmas And New Year Holidays

JAKARTA - AirNav Indonesia predicts there will be an increase in aircraft movements or traffic by 24 percent during the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year holidays.

Meanwhile, AirNav Indonesia has set a period for Christmas and New Year holidays to take place from 19 December 2023 to 3 January 2024.

Head of AirNav Indonesia Aviation Traffic Service Control Sub Division, Syahrial, said that from that percentage, it is estimated that there will be 4,467 domestic flights and 609 international flights during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

"So we projected an increase in flights. If we add an average of up to 24 percent," he said at the Jakarta Air Traffic Services Center (JATSC) branch office, at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten, Friday, December 15.

To anticipate the traffic spike, Syahrial said his party held Christmas and New Year's Command Posts at 52 Branch Offices, 1 at the Head Office, and 1 Integrated Command Post at the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub).

Syahrial said that the moment of Christmas and New Year is a place for people to travel on vacation, so it's not just a Christmas celebration.

Based on the data it has, there are five busiest flight destinations in Indonesia from Soekarno Hatta Airport. First, to Denpasar-Bali.

Then, continued Syahrial, Medan-North Sumatra (North Sumatra). Then, there are Makassar-South Sulawesi (Sulsel). Furthermore, Surabaya-East Java (East Java), and Yogyakarta.

"That's why the data is 16 percent to Denpasar and to Medan. This field is because it is also a hub in Sumatra, the majority celebrate Christmas. Ujung Pandang (Makassar) is also big, but not a direct destination, maybe transit," said Syahrial.
