JAKARTA - President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the construction of the MRT Phase 2A (Hi-Kota Roundabout) has gone well and exceeded the target. However, he admits the construction is not easy.

This was conveyed by Jokowi after reviewing the announcement of MRT Phase 2A with the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi to review the Integrated Moda Raya (MRT) construction project at the MRT Monas Station, Jakarta, Friday, December 15.

"From the 27 percent planning target, now it has reached 28.4 percent. More than the target, I think it's good," said Jokowi in an official statement, Friday, December 15.

Jokowi targets that MRT phase 2A can function in 2027.

He considered that the MRT project was not an easy job because its work had to be done in the crowd of Jakarta.

"This is not an easy job because you have to work in a crowd in Jakarta, which is also under time to make the tunnel tunnel not an easy thing, but the progress is already above the target," he explained.

While reviewing the MRT project, Jokowi also saw a tunnel from Monas to the Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout.

After phase 2A is completed, the next project will be continued with phase 2B from City to Ancol.

"It will only be forwarded to the 2B phase from Kota to Ancol," he said.

Regarding the MRT development plan from east to west, Jokowi said, everything is still in process and will be decided immediately after calculating and studying.

"If the calculation of the study has been completed, we will immediately decide. Because Jakarta really needs integrated mass transportation, not individually," he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that he would continue to oversee the implementation of this project together with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government so that it could be completed in accordance with the set time target.

Budi also said that he would continue to encourage the construction of urban mass transportation in Jabodetabek, to overcome a number of problems such as congestion, air pollution, high accident rates, and other problems.

"With the increasing number of options for mass transportation modes available, it is hoped that more people will switch to using mass transportation," he said.

For your information, the construction of Phase 2 MRT is a National Strategic Project (PSN) which is a continuation of the construction of the north-south coast phase 1, which has been operating since 2019.

Phase 2 MRT development is divided into two stages, namely Phase 2A and 2B.

Phase 2A connects the HI-City Roundabout for 5.8 km, which passes through seven underground stations namely Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and Kota.

While Phase 2B consists of two underground stations, namely: Mangga Dua and Ancol, as well as one depot in West Ancol, with a total length of about 6 (six) kilometers.
