JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has completed the development of three Final Processing Places (TPA) in East Java. The three TPAs are TPA Supit Urang Malang City, TPA Jabon Sidoarjo Regency, and TPA Banjardowo Jombang Regency.

Director General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR Diana Kusumastuti said the development of the three TPAs used the sanitary landfill system to minimize the impact of pollution, both water, land, and air so that it was more environmentally friendly.

"Hopefully, with these three TPAs, they will help local governments in the three cities/regencies in managing their waste," Diana said in a press release, quoted Friday, December 15.

Meanwhile, the Supit Urang TPA Malang City was built at a cost of Rp273 billion from 2018 to 2020. With a landfill area of 5.2 hectares and a landfill capacity of 726 thousand cubic meters, it can accommodate up to 450 tons of waste per day. The number of service recipients reaches 700,000 people with a service lifespan of 5-7 years.

Next, the Jabon TPA, which is located in Sidoarjo Regency, has a land area of 29 hectares and a capacity of up to 1,650,000. With a garbage capacity of 450 tons per day, this TPA can serve 900,000 people with a service lifespan of 5-7 years.

The construction itself was carried out in 2018-2020 at a cost sourced from the State Budget of IDR 386 billion.

Then, the Banjardowo TPA in Jombang Regency has a land area of 4.45 hectares and a capacity of 444,864 square meters. This TPA has a waste capacity of up to 110 tons per day and a total of 895,000 service recipients with a service life of approximately 5 years. The construction was carried out in 2020-2022 by costing up to Rp203 billion.

As previously reported, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated three Final Processing Places (TPA) in East Java.

Jokowi said that with the inauguration of the three modern TPAs, they would later be able to help with waste problems in Malang City, Sidoarjo Regency, and Jombang Regency.

"It is hoped that the operation of these three TPAs can reduce waste problems, reduce environmental pollution, and improve the quality of the environment and public health," he said.

According to Jokowi, waste is a very serious problem which if not handled properly will cause various problems, both social and health problems.

Therefore, it is necessary for a well-organized TPA, to have modern processing facilities and technology as well as a good processing and management system.

"I know that waste processing is not easy, regulating a single place is difficult, especially if one city/district or one province. Now there are many TPA models that operate properly. This can be an example for waste processing in other places that have problems," he said.
