Deputy Minister of Industry (Wamenperin) Faisol Riza stated that the government will continue to prioritize the logistics sector, considering that the industry has an important role in increasing national industrial competitiveness.
During a visit session for a delivery service company from the United States, FedEx, on January 8, Faisol said that geographical constraints are still a major challenge for the domestic logistics industry, thus affecting the cost structure borne by business actors and consumers.
"Therefore, the government continues to accelerate the development of transportation infrastructure. Starting from toll roads, ports, train stations and airports to support connectivity, especially in eastern Indonesia and 3T areas," said Faisol in a written statement, quoted on Friday, January 10.
Faisol said efforts to improve the quality of the logistics sector must be supported by industry players by increasing capacity and increasing the number of warehouses in various regions.
Thus, the process of distributing goods from within the country and vice versa becomes faster, more efficient and reduces operational costs.
"This capacity increase is actually the key to creating wider jobs to encourage national economic growth. FedEx can also take a role in transferring knowledge to our human resources regarding digitalization and the application of artificial intelligence, especially in the logistics sector," he said.
He added that the government is in principle ready to listen to the obstacles faced by the logistics industry in the field, in order to create a competitive logistics system amidst global economic challenges.
