Beware Of Extreme Weather In Several Regions Of Indonesia Today

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a weather forecast for Friday, January 10. BMKG asked the public to be vigilant because a number of areas in Indonesia will experience rain accompanied by lightning today.

Some of the islands predicted to be exposed to rain are Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and major cities in Indonesia which are expected to experience rain with various intensities.

BMKG weather forecaster Sekar Anggraeni revealed that on the island of Sumatra, people need to be aware of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning, especially in Tanjung Pinang and Bengkulu cities.

On the islands of Java and Nusa Tenggara, rain accompanied by lightning is expected to occur in several major cities such as Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Mataram, and Kupang. Residents in these cities are asked to remain vigilant against extreme weather.

Furthermore, on the island of Kalimantan, the potential for rain accompanied by lightning is also expected to occur in the cities of Tanjung Selor, Palangka Raya, and Banjarmasin.

On the island of Sulawesi, Mamuju City is expected to experience rain accompanied by lightning, while in eastern Indonesia, Merauke City also has the potential to experience rain accompanied by lightning.

On the other hand, the city of Medan is expected to experience light rain, as is the city of Jakarta which has the potential for light rain. The city of Bandung is also expected to experience light rain today

Furthermore, Sekar explained that the combination of three atmospheric dynamics, namely, tropical cyclone seeds, wind patterns, and cyclonic circulation caused the potential for heavy rain to extreme weather.

Areas that need to be aware of extreme weather include Gorontalo, West Java, mostly Kalimantan, Bangka Belitung Islands, Maluku, West Nusa Tenggara, West Papua, and most of Sulawesi.

Residents in these areas are asked to continue to monitor the BMKG weather forecast today and always be aware of weather changes that can occur suddenly.
