PT PLN (Persero) signed a memorandum of understanding with Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, PJSC (TAQA), to develop a transmission grid interference and smart grid in Indonesia.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was carried out between PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo and TAQA Group CEO and Managing Director Jasim Husain Thabet, on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28), in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, said that in facing the energy transition, the challenges of location mismatch between renewable energy sources and existing energy demand need to be resolved.
According to him, this adjustment is the key to achieving an alignment between supply and sustainable demand.
To overcome this, we have to design and build what is called a green enabling transmission. For that, the first study that must be carried out is how from the point of view of this energy modeling system must be mapped all of them and designed for a green enabling transmission that is really 'true fit'," said Darmawan.
Furthermore, Darmawan explained, the collaboration between PLN and TAQA is an effort to accelerate the energy transition through the development of increased transmission and interconnect networks, as well as developing the application of smart grid technology to enable the management of effective and stable distribution of renewable energy sources.
"This is a corridor from Sumatra to Java, there is a Sulawesi corridor, then there is a corridor from Kalimantan to Java, then there is also a corridor from Nusa Tenggara to Java. We also build a state of the art of technology of smart grids, this of course includes flexible generation, then there is also a smart control design Dispatch center," said Darmawan.
Darmawan emphasized that this collaboration is not a collaboration in one region but globally.
Therefore, PLN is collaborating with stakeholders for smart grid development.
"Like yesterday we also have a collaboration with the Global Power System Transformation Consortium (G-PST). In this design we build a system with the state of the art with the most advanced technology so that we are able to carry out this energy transition running smoothly," said Darmawan.

TAQA Group CEO and Managing Director, Jasim Husain Thabet said his enthusiasm for collaborating with PLN would encourage transformational changes that are in line with smart grid development.
"The focus on increasing capacity to utilize renewable energy to a more perfect design is the key to our evolution towards a sustainable future," he said.
Just so you know, TAQA is a diversified utility and energy group headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and has significant investments in power generation, water, transmission and distribution assets.
