The Presence Of The Kayan Hydropower Plant Can Boost North Kalimantan's Economic Growth

BULUNGAN - President of the National Dayak Customary Council (MADN) Marthin Billa said that the Kayan Hydro Energy (KHE) hydroelectric power plant (PLTA) being built will have a positive impact. One of them can boost economic growth in the North Kalimantan (Kaltara) region.

The reason, continued Marthin, is that the development of the Kayan hydropower plant is also accompanied by the construction of the Indonesian Green Industrial Estate (KIHI) in Kaltara, which is also managed by PT Kalimantan Industrial Park Indonesia (KIPI) and PT Indonesia Strategic Industry (ISI).

This is because, continued Marthin, for the development phase of the Kayan hydropower plant, PT KHE also involved the local community to participate in the development program.

"What's because I said, they are serious about building people, right. Second, this is my village, I'm even more concerned about how serious people want to act, we support them," said Martin.

"So that they are open to us, that we want to work with the community to build this project. Don't come and don't report to the public, it's not good. This (PLTA Kayan) is good," he continued.

The Kayan Cascade hydropower plant will utilize an area along the Kayan River water flow, in Peso District, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan. Consisting of five dams with 5 units of generating turbines in each dam. This hydropower plant will produce clean electricity with a total of 9,000 Megawatts.

The project will attract investment of up to 17.8 billion US dollars (Rp277.2 trillion). For the construction of this project, PT KHE has collaborated with an energy company from Japan, Sumitomo Corporation.
