JAKARTA - The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is sure to be present at the 28th UNFCC Conference of the Parties (COP) which will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Arifin said that in the meeting a number of issues related to global climate change would be discussed.

He also highlighted several strategic issues, one of which was the target of increasing the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target by 3 times previously set in COP27. "It's just that there is a new issue regarding the new NDC target which is 3 times the previous one in COP27," said Arifin to the media at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Building, Friday, December 1.

Arifin said, related to this issue, Indonesia still has to look at domestic conditions and capabilities. Moreover, according to him, Indonesia is still not as strong as several developed countries that are aggressively setting the NDC increase by 3 times.

According to Arifin, the targets set in Indonesia must be in accordance with domestic capabilities so that the targets set can be achieved and the programs launched run well.

For this reason, continued Arifin, Indonesia needs to have support and cooperate with various related parties so that the target is immediately achieved.

"Of course the acceleration must also be related to the support of each other. So the strong ones help the less strong so that the program can go together," explained Arifin.

Arifin also highlighted funding problems from developed countries to tackle climate change. Some countries that are known to have allocated funds are Germany and the UAE.

"So it is now a matter of funding for damage, there have been initiatives from several countries, such as the UAE and Germany which allocated a number of funds to initiate it," concluded Arifin.
