JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) said that the development of the cosmetics industry in Indonesia has great potential.

Director General of Small, Medium and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita, said that apart from Indonesia being a large market, this is also due to the availability of natural resources which are rich in herbal plants and have been used for generations for health and cosmetic products.

Reni said that the export value for the pharmaceutical industry, chemical medicinal products and traditional medicines in January-October 2023 had reached 601.15 million US dollars. This achievement has increased compared to the export value in the same period in 2022 of 566.72 million US dollars.

"Meanwhile, the contribution of the cosmetics industry, including the chemical, pharmaceutical and traditional medicine industries, to GDP in the third quarter of 2023 reached 3.83 percent," said Reni in a written statement received by VOI, Wednesday, November 29.

He assessed that the cosmetics industry in Indonesia is increasingly developing by providing various innovative products for its consumers.

This is in line with increasing public awareness of the importance of taking care of one's appearance.

So, said Reni, many local cosmetic brands continue to be motivated to produce products with the latest technology and content trends according to society's current needs.

"Moreover, with the times, cosmetic products have also been used by various segments of society, there are even cosmetic products specially formulated for the needs of babies and men," she said.

So far, the Directorate General of IKMA has routinely provided guidance and development for small and medium-sized cosmetic industries (IKM), including through a certification program for certification of Good Cosmetic Manufacturing Methods (CPKB), facilitation of product distribution permits, facilitation of machines and equipment, promotions, increasing resource competency humans, as well as the application of industry 4.0.

Apart from that, there is a program to strengthen cosmetic product branding, restructure machinery and equipment, and provide assistance with Good Traditional Medicine Manufacturing Methods (CPOTB) certification. "With these various efforts, it is hoped that a cosmetics industry ecosystem can be formed from upstream to downstream," said Reni.

Furthermore, Reni said, since 2019, the Ministry of Industry has actively held Cosmetic Day events as one of its annual agendas.

"It is hoped that the Cosmetic Day event can encourage the growth and development of the national cosmetics industry, especially those that use local raw materials," she said.

In an effort to promote local cosmetic products, the Ministry of Industry is collaborating with Stylo Indonesia as digital media for Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle Indonesia to hold a Cosmetic Day 2023 event which will take place on 24-26 November 2023 at the Main Atrium, 5th Floor, AEON Mall Tanjung Barat, South Jakarta.

It is also hoped that Cosmetic Day 2023 will be an opportunity for every cosmetic industry player in Indonesia to expand their market and build networks with fellow industry players and related stakeholders, and can encourage people's love for national cosmetic products.
