President Jokowi Inaugurates Two Airports in Papua

JAKARTA - Douw Aturure Airport in Nabire, Central Papua, and Siboru Airport in Fakfak, West Papua are ready to be inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) today.

Both airports are National Strategic Projects (PSN).

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that Siboru Airport will be built from 2020 to 2023. Meanwhile, Douw Aturure Baru Airport will be built from 2020 to 2022.

“We have built a beautiful and cool airport in Papua. "God willing, it is ready to be inaugurated by President Jokowi tomorrow (Thursday, November 23)," he said in an official statement, written Thursday, November 23.

Furthermore, Budi explained, the two airports were the result of collaboration between the central and regional governments to complement each other.

“The regional government has provided its land to the central government. "Then, the central government will carry out construction of terminals, runways, and other facilities," he said.

With the presence of these two airports, continued. Budi, it is hoped that this can further facilitate people's mobility to and from Papua, both to Nabire and Fakfak.

"We ask for the support of the regional government to make efforts to market this airport so that passengers and flights will be busier," he said.
