PPI Supports Legal Process In Case Of Alleged Sugar Import Corruption

PT Perusahaan Perdagangan Indonesia (PPI) stated that it supports and respects the investigation process of alleged corruption in sugar imports at the Ministry of Trade which is currently being run by the Indonesian Attorney General's Office. President Director of PT PPI, S. Hernowo said that PPI supports and respects the investigation process being carried out by the Attorney General's Office (AGO) regarding the alleged crime of sugar import corruption for the period 2015-2023, where on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, investigators from the Attorney General's Office, conducted a search for supporting documents related to the case.

"PPI will cooperate with the investigation carried out by the Indonesian Attorney General's Office," explained Hernowo, in Jakarta, quoted Friday, October 6. Currently, Hernowo explained that the trading business activities run by PPI are still running well.

Furthermore, Hernowo also emphasized that his party continues to emphasize the implementation of good and correct corporate governance in the daily business process.

Previously, the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes at the Attorney General's Office (Jampidsus Kejagung) was investigating allegations of abuse of authority in sugar importation activities at the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) which occurred in the 2015 to 2023 period.

The Director of Investigation at the Jampidsus Attorney General's Office, Kuntadi, said that his party had found two sufficient preliminary pieces of evidence on suspicion of abuse of authority in the sugar importation activity at the Ministry of Trade.

"This action is, among other things, suspected in the context of fulfilling national sugar stocks and stability of national sugar prices," he said.
