JAKARTA - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) assesses that the potential for economic cooperation with Latin American countries is quite potential in terms of the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.

Chairman of Kadin Shinta Kamdani said that this business potential is also in line with the direction of Indonesia's economic development which seeks to grow the green business climate in the country.

We in Indonesia happen to be focusing on the EV ecosystem. I share examples, in Latin America and the Caribbean region, they are very rich in mineral products. This mineral is really needed when we want to build an electric vehicle," he told reporters in Jakarta on Monday, September 18.

According to Shinta, the opportunity for green cooperation is very open considering that countries in the region already have a special association that accommodates various opportunities to increase production. So, Indonesia can immediately embrace this organization so that market penetration can be more effective.

"We can optimize this to strengthen the national EV supply chain. How, we can import minerals from them to increase supply in the country. Later we can export the products abroad," he said.

"We can do this because they have a supply of mineral raw materials but they don't have the production capacity to process. This is the key we have to take," he continued.

Shinta revealed that the move to import mineral goods for EV needs is not something that is haram. This is because the more supplies you get, the more it means extending your supply life that the raw is in the country.

"This condition can benefit Indonesia as well as global EV manufacturing and in terms of saving the use of critical mineral resources. So that we can use more prudent resources," said Shinta.
