Pertamina Makassar Depot Violates Operational Standards And Threatens Citizens' Safety

JAKARTA - The Pertamina Makassar depot located on Jl.Sabutung, Tamalabba Village, Ujung Tanah District has begun to be highlighted by various parties.

A researcher from the Public Policy Network (Polinet), Naylawati Bachtiar, said that the presence of the Pertamina Makassar Depot had several negative impacts.

The results of the analysis by the Polynet research team showed that the distance between the Pertamina Makassar Depot was very close to residential areas, which threatened health, safety, and had the potential to cause casualties.

"Regarding the distance, the Pertamina Makassar depot also does not meet the minimum standards. While the environmental aspect, the presence of the Pertamina depot is considered to pollute the air around the depot and some of the resources owned are no longer up to standard," said Naylawati at the Exploss event. Research conducted by Polinet at a cafe in the Boulevard Area, Makassar City, Friday 23 June.

Not to mention, the Pertamina Makassar Depot fire incident in 2009 and the recent explosion of the Plumpang Depo made residents living around the depot worried.

From the social aspect, the existence of the Pertamina Makassar Depot also interferes with the human rights of the community, including that there are no work priorities for the surrounding community.

"The presence of the Pertamina depot is considered to threaten the right to a sense of security for residents around the depot because the distance is very close to residents' housing," he said.

Another problem is that CSR is uneven so that the local government is not thoroughly involved and does not follow up on the results of the joint dialogue.

"From the governance aspect, the CSR of the Pertamina depot is considered ineffective because it is not evenly distributed to the community around the depot," said Naylawati.

Based on these considerations, Polinet recommends relocating the Pertamina Makassar Depot to a representative place and in accordance with the safety of residents.

"For this reason, we recommend moving the location of the Pertamina depot with the Public Private Partnership scheme. So, the transfer budget can be minimized," he concluded.
