JAKARTA - Indonesia through the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) opens opportunities for cooperation with Japan through the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF).

This was stated by the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita during a working visit to Japan, recently.

"The cooperation framework is expected to strengthen the supply chain aspect, as well as support energy transition efforts, one of which is in the development of green hydrogen," said Minister of Industry Agus in an official statement received by VOI, Monday, June 5.

Agus said, currently, Indonesia is still facing challenges in developing clean energy technology and low carbon.

Therefore, Indonesia hopes that the Japanese Government and the private sector can support the plan.

"Through a meeting with the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Yasutoshi Nishimura, the Minister of Industry opened up opportunities for cooperation in green hydrogen development with Japan in the form of knowledge sharing and defloyment of clean technology transfer," he said.

He conveyed that the partnership is targeted to support the acceleration of achieving Indonesia's Net Zero Emission target by 2060.

"The government also has a commitment map for the energy sector in achieving an Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (E-NDC) to achieve a reduction of 358 million tons of CO2," said Agus.

Therefore, Indonesia will work with the support of international partners in developing a comprehensive investment plan to achieve new targets and policies, including plans to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and support the affected communities, including the industrial sector which also contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).

"We will continue to spur the development of the green industry by prioritizing efficiency and effectiveness of sustainable resource use," said Agus.

The Ministry of Industry is known to have designed and implemented seven programs related to the implementation of green industry policies, namely Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production, Green Product Development, Decarbonization and Energy Transition, Waste Management, Water Conservation, Circular Economy Implementation, and Increasing Green Jobs.

Then, the Ministry of Industry has also implemented three key accesses in order to make green industry policies a success, namely expanding industry access to green investment, strengthening the green product ecosystem, and focusing on developing green industry standards.

Meanwhile, Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Yasutoshi Nishimura said, Indonesia is the most important partner in the Asian Zero Emission Community (AZEC).

"In the event of this effort, Japan has initiated an energy transition through a Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII) which is also led by the United States, an initiation for a Fair Energy Transitional Partnership (JETP) that mobilizes US$20 billion for public and private financing for Indonesia and the AZEC, as well as the Indonesia Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact which has successfully launched US$698 million," he added.
