JAKARTA - The National Food Agency (NFA) will expand the handling of waste waste through the Food Saving Movement following the successful implementation of the program which was first implemented in Jabodetabek.

Last December 2022, NFA signed a cooperation agreement with 9 (nine) partners such as APPBI. APRINDO, HIPPINDO, APJI, PHRI, GAPMMI, Foodbank of Indonesia, FoodCycle Indonesia, the Food Care Surplus Foundation. This is part of the next step," said Deputy for Food Insecurity and Nutrition, Nyoto Suwingnno, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, June 1.

Nyoto said that Bapanas had initiated the Food Saving Movement in the Jabodetabek area as a pilot project by involving associations, business actors and activists in saving food.

Badanas appreciates the provinces and regencies/cities that have initiated the Food Save Movement such as the Provinces of DI Yogyakarta, Central Java, DKI Jakarta, as well as Semarang City and Bogor City.

Head of NFA Arief Prasetyo Adi hopes that this synergy and collaboration will continue to be improved so that food waste in Indonesia can be suppressed, thus having an impact on decreasing food and nutrition insecurity in line with the government's efforts to reduce stunting.

"Reducing the waste waste is one of the priority agendas of the National Food Agency, for that we encourage the movement to save food so that the scale is increased. This is in accordance with the direction of the President who asks people to apply the habit of not throwing away food, on the contrary, to appreciate every food more," he said.

It was recorded that from December 2022 to mid-May 2023, Badanas had managed to save 41.5 tons of food in the Jabodetabek area. Thus, the scale of the Food Saving Movement in 2023 will be further improved.

In addition to continuing to be implemented in Jabodetabek, this movement will also be expanded in 12 provinces, as well as in parallel prepared policies to be implemented in 15 other provinces in 2024. Thus, by 2030 it can be implemented in 38 provinces.

The focus of implementing the Food Save Movement uses 2 main approaches, namely preventing the occurrence of diversity/food insecurity through the support and facilitation of food rescue measures to be distributed to people in need.

Badanas has also provided food logistics cars and food trucks so that they can be used to pick up and distribute food donations in collaboration with food donors and food-saving activists.
