4,600 Residents' Houses In Wajo Regency Now Use Gas Network

JAKARTA - As many as 4,600 house connections in Wajo Regency, South Sulawesi enjoy the natural gas network for households (jargas).

The gas jars that were built are spread across Gilireng District (2,171 SR), Tanasitolo District (878 SR), Tempe District (438 SR), and Maniangpajo District (1,113 SR), with supplies coming from Energy Equity Epic Sengkang Pty. Ltd of 0.6 MMSCFD.

"The gas network development program is one of the programs that support energy diversification. This program is implemented in order to optimize the potential utilization of natural gas through pipelines for the household sector using state budget funds," said the Director of Planning and Development of Oil and Gas Infrastructure Laode Sulaeman to the media, Tuesday, March 7.

For the operation and development of gas network, continued Laode, assigned to SOEs as parties who have functional duties, technical capabilities, experience in carrying out natural gas supply and distribution activities.

The construction of a gas network aims to provide access to energy for the community, save fuel costs for cooking, help the community's economy towards an independent and environmentally friendly community economy, and reduce the burden of fuel and/or LPG subsidies on the household sector.

"The gas network development program also means easy access to energy where people are given choices about the energy to be used," he added.

The government hopes that the local government and the people of Wajo district will participate in securing and maintaining the gas network infrastructure built with people's money.

Meanwhile, DPR Commission VII member Andi Yuliani Paris said Gilireng District managed to get the largest share of 2,171 SR.

This shows that almost 100 percent of the houses in the area have been fitted with the gas network.

Until 2022, 703,308 SRs have been built with APBN funds distributed in 17 provinces, 63 regencies/cities.
