JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) continues to strive to increase public access to adequate and sustainable drinking water. One of them is in rural areas through the Community-Based Drinking Water and Sanitation Program (Pamsimas) with a cash-intensive pattern.

It is known, the achievement of access to drinking water feasible in Indonesia is 90 percent, both low water supply and non-low water supply. Meanwhile, the feasible sanitation achievement has reached 81 percent, to date.

Therefore. The Ministry of PUPR also targets access to drinking water to be up to 100 percent and access to sanitation to reach 90 percent.

In the 2023 Fiscal Year (TA), the implementation of Pamsimas comes from the State Budget with a target of 1,063 villages/kelurahan throughout Indonesia.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said Pamsimas is part of the drinking water supply program. If in urban areas have regular SPAM or IKK, in rural areas there is Pamsimas which has been implemented since 15 years ago.

"Currently, there are around 37,000 Pamsimas units and have served 25.9 million people," Minister Basuki said in a written statement, Tuesday, March 7.

Pamsimas activities are carried out entirely by the community, starting from the planning, implementation stages, to the management of facilities to be built by prioritizing local wisdom in each region. The main target of the Pamsimas program is in areas that do not have water.

"The task of the assistants is to be able to direct their targets," he said.

In addition to having to be right on target, continued Basuki, managers must also be trained in order to maintain the operational sustainability of the Pamsimas that has been built.

"The PUPR Ministry also invites local governments to collaborate together in providing drinking water to the community," he added.
