JAKARTA - Special Staff (Staffsus) to the Minister of SOEs Arya Sinulingga said the use of electric stoves was much more efficient than LPG gas. In fact, according to him, people can save up to 40 percent if they use an electric stove.

"That's right, 40 percent is cheaper than using LPG gas," he told reporters, quoted Thursday, September 22.

Arya also said that migrating to an electric stove would not interfere or increase the supply of coal for electricity. This dismissed fears that PLN would lack coal.

Furthermore, Arya emphasized that the migration to the electric stove aims to reduce the burden of state subsidies on LPG 3kg or melon gas. Besides that, he said, it can also save people's expenses.

"This is for subsidized installments, reducing community costs as well. 40 percent is cheaper than gas," he explained.

As previously reported, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) said that the plan to transfer or convert 3 kg LPG gas to an electric stove was considered unable to solve energy problems in Indonesia.

Head of the BRIN Center for Macroeconomic and Financial Research, Zamroni Salim, said the scheme was considered less effective and was unable to provide comprehensive solutions to the subject of the problem, namely related to the budget.

This includes problems with the allocation of energy subsidies. So far, many 3 kg LPG subsidized have been misused or mistargeted," he told VOI on Monday, September 19.

According to Zamroni, if the conversion is carried out massively, it is believed that it can save the subsidy budget of around Rp. 5.5 trillion, with a record number of recipients reaching more than 5 million people.

"But keep in mind that this allocation cannot last long, if PLN itself in the production process relies heavily on coal, which of course is not environmentally friendly because it does not include green energy," he said.
