JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) together with all stakeholders in the aviation sector continues to campaign for the importance of aviation safety aspects, both to actors in the aviation sector and the public.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that Indonesia as a member country of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) emphasized that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the aviation industry should not interfere with commitments to improve flight safety.

"We are always ready to comply with the standards and practices recommended by ICAO and other international regulations to maintain flight safety," said Budi Karya in his statement, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, August 24.

The Minister of Transportation said that a number of policy instruments had also been issued, including establishing a safety program task force, establishing a National Aviation Safety Plan, and periodically holding dialogues and consultations with stakeholders, namely NTSC and Airnav regarding safety reporting systems, system integration, and promoting safety. through newsletter publications.

Furthermore, the Minister of Transportation encouraged all ICAO member countries to continue to maintain the quality of flight safety management.

"Airline operators take an important role in maintaining the continued development of the aviation industry and identifying changes that require a policy that must be taken immediately," he said.

The Minister of Transportation further said that the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world since 2020 has had a tremendous impact and threatens the sustainability of the world aviation industry. In 2021, air traffic in the Asia Pacific region will fall by 95.4 percent compared to the pre-pandemic period.
