JAKARTA - President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier made a state visit to Indonesia on June 15-17, 2022. During his visit, President Steinmeier attended several agendas related to the development of industrial cooperation between Germany and Indonesia, including the development of digitalization, infrastructure, and sustainability.

Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, who welcomed President Steinmeier at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, said that President Steinmeier would have a meeting with President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace.

“Furthermore, President Steinmeier will visit the Indonesian Digital Industry Center (PIDI 4.0) for two agendas. First, attending the German-Indonesian Business Round Table and reviewing PIDI 4.0, which is the development facility for the implementation of Industry 4.0 which was built by the Ministry of Industry," said the Minister of Industry in his statement quoted on Thursday, June 16.

The Minister of Industry said that in a round table meeting between German and Indonesian business players, opportunities for cooperation, especially in the industrial sector, would be discussed. "We see that cooperation opportunities in the manufacturing sector that can be developed by Indonesia and Germany include the semiconductor industry, vaccine production, and industrial 4.0 development," he explained.

In the semiconductor industry, investment opportunities are created because Indonesia is a market for electronics and finished electronics products. Furthermore, human resources, as well as natural resources in Indonesia are great potentials in the development of the semiconductor industry.

While in the vaccine production industry, there are pharmaceutical companies, including PT Bio Farma (Persero) and PT Biotis Pharmaceutical Indonesia, which are vaccine manufacturers in Indonesia. Cooperation in the field of vaccine production is expected to encourage technology transfer for vaccine development and joint vaccine production that will benefit both parties and contribute to the recovery of the global pandemic.

In terms of the development of industry 4.0, during the holding of the largest industrial exhibition Hannover Messe 2022 some time ago, an MoU was signed between the Ministry of Industry and the Deutsche Messe Technology Academy (DMTA) in the field of industrial HR development and industrial transformation 4.0. "This collaboration is expected to support the development of Smart Industry Academy in Indonesia," explained the Minister of Industry.

PIDI 4.0 carries out five pillars to realize the vision of becoming a one-stop solution for the implementation of Industry 4.0. First, as a Showcase Center to show how technology can create efficiency and increase productivity on the production line. The second pillar is the Capability Building which is a means of increasing competence for top level management, managers, engineers, and workers from industry.

The Third Pillar is the Ecosystem that builds and provides access to the exclusive network of the Industry 4.0 ecosystem. The fourth pillar, as a Delivery Center for assistance for companies in the transformation process. While the fifth pillar is the Engineering and AI Center which organizes research brokerage and testbed.
