Backflow On Toll Roads This Year Sets The Highest Record In History

JAKARTA - PT Jasa Marga noted that the traffic volume on the return flow of D+4 Lebaran this year reached 170,078 vehicles heading to Greater Jakarta from the east such as Surabaya, Solo, Semarang, Cirebon and Bandung.

PT Jasa Marga's Corporate Communication and Community Development Group Head, Dwimawan Heru, revealed that this figure was up 159 percent from the return flow in 2020 and beat the highest record in history, which previously occurred in Eid 2019 of 166,444 vehicles.

"The record for the highest backflow in the history of toll roads in Indonesia occurred again on Saturday, May 7, 2022, or D+4 for the return flow of Lebaran 2022," said Heru in his statement, Sunday, May 8.

Homecoming traffic from the east is a cumulative backflow on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road through two toll gates, namely the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate for travelers from the Trans Java Toll Road and the Kalihurip Utama Toll Gate for travelers from the Cipularang Toll Road.

In detail, the traffic volume of the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate is 124,761, an increase of 272 percent from the normal 2021 of 33,535 vehicles. Then, the Kalihurip Utama Toll Gate with a total of 45,317 vehicles, an increase of 41 percent from the normal 2021 of 31,968 vehicles.

Although there is an extraordinary increase in volume on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, Heru said that traffic conditions can be controlled. This is different from the conditions in 2019.

"In 2019 it will take up to 24 hours to break down traffic of this magnitude to drain the extraordinary density that occurs in various segments of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road," said Heru.

"This year, with more mature planning and much more intensive coordination, there is relatively no significant congestion on the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road," he continued.
