Indonesia Becomes Host Of The G20 Presidency, Luhut: Must Take Advantage Of The Momentum To Promote Our Development Progress

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the mandate of the G20 Presidency that Indonesia received in 2022 should be used as a momentum to promote Indonesia's development to the international community.

"Being a host country for the G20 Presidency in 2022 can play an important role in our post-pandemic recovery. We must take advantage of the momentum to unlock Indonesia's potential and promote our development progress to the world," he said at a press briefing at Welcoming Indonesia's G20 Presidency in 2022, Friday. , November 26.

Luhut said there were several things that could be promoted at the G20 summit. One of them is the tourism sector. According to him, the sector was badly hit by the pandemic, because it needed to be boosted during the G20 Summit with a series of other events.

Second, said Luhut, Indonesia must also encourage micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to produce high-quality products that can be facilitated in their promotion at the G20 Summit.

"Thirdly, we must also promote our initiatives towards sustainable development, such as energy transition and electric vehicles. It is hoped that this will reduce the sustainability risk assessed by investor groups, reducing the risk premium expected when investing in Indonesia," he explained.

According to Luhut, Indonesia must also capture the growing global interest to invest in Indonesia by creating investment opportunities that are in line with national development goals.

For information, referring to Presidential Regulation Number 12 of 2021, the G20 Presidency will consist of the G20 Summit, G20 side events, and road to G20. There will be more than 100 side events, in various formats.

Luhut said Indonesia's main goal was to accept the mandate of the G20 side event to ensure that each G20 member country could obtain a clear and comprehensive understanding of the priority agenda at the G20 Summit.

"The G20 side event is expected to be able to optimize the multiplier effect in the economy through promotion, investment and trade," he said.
