JAKARTA - Ridwan Kamil's name suddenly caused a stir among the public, especially in West Java and DKI Jakarta. The former Mayor of Bandung and the Governor of West Java were even involved in a war of nerves with the National Democratic object (Nasdem) Ahmad Sahroni.
A jumbo-sized billboard features Ridwan Kamil carrying a large backpack on his shoulders. What is of concern, there is the words OTW Jakarta. The billboard is then referred to as the code for Ridwan to run for the election for governor of DKI Jakarta in November.
The billboard, which was then linked to the DKI Jakarta gubernatorial election, invited various reactions from netizens. Many support it, but not a few also doubt the ability of this man who is familiarly called RK.

On the other hand, Ahmad Sahroni seemed to be provoked by Ridwan Kamil's billboard. He uploaded the caption 'From Tanjung Priok to Jakarta' on his social media account. The public then suspected this as a reply to the RK billboard.
Then on an occasion, Sahroni also joked that he would easily beat Emil, as Ridwan Kamil is called, if both of them competed in the Jakarta Pilkada.
"Between going forward and not, it's just like RK. If RK is just about to go forward for Jakarta, if I'm already in Jakarta, so I'm easy at any time. If it's just RK, it's easy for the opponent, it's too easy (to laugh) the deputy doesn't know, just go forward yet, this is ridiculous," said Sahroni when met by reporters at Nasdem Tower.
Aware of the noise caused by the billboard featuring him, Ridwan Kamil finally made a clarification. Through his personal Instagram account, the Golkar politician denied that his billboard was a signal of advancing to the elections in November.
"Assalamualaikum, my hello is Ridwan Kamil. Here I want to respond to the hecticness of my billboards, whose title is 'OTW Jakarta' which has made many perceptions throughout Jakarta and even Indonesia," said Kang Emil in a clarification video uploaded on Thursday (29/2/2024).
"Frankly, I am confused too, why are all kinds interpreted in my own understanding, even interpreting politics," he added.
Kang Emil continued, the billboards are marketing advertisements for himself as brand ambassadors for male skincare products, R1 by Ridwan Kamil.
"This is a stand-up for Indonesian biodiversity materials," said Ridwan Kamil, promoting the product.
Once again Ridwan Kamil emphasized that the reason for writing OTW to Jakarta on the billboard was because the launch of the skincare was carried out in the capital city. He also denied Sahroni's statement that he wanted to run for the DKI Pilkada.
Kang Emil admitted that he had not yet decided to run in the West Java Pilgub, DKI Jakarta, or take a break from the world of politics.
Actually, it's fine if the public thinks that RK's billboards are a code for him to advance to the DKI gubernatorial election. The reason is, this man who graduated from the Bandung Institute of Technology is indeed said to be included in the DKI regional election exchange. The same is true with Ahmad Sahroni.
The interaction between the two, and other politicians, on social media, is considered a marketing technique or gimikmarketing. The uploads attracted the attention of many people.
Executive Director of Charta Politica Indonesia Yunarto Wijaya said that viral is one of the most important prerequisites besides the programs and values offered. This phenomenon is not something good, but as a political marketing reality which is a factor that determines victory.
"We know that Ridwan Kamil and Ahmad Sahroni are very active on social media so they are not surprised if the marketing gimmick is one of their strengths. From the portfolio, they still have homework to be able to compete with Anies and Ahok who have worked directly in Jakarta," he said, quoting Kompas.

Yunarto added that the game marketing technique will be a seasoning that determines victory, but he warns that this method does not obscure the assessment of the substance of the figure, both in terms of leadership and program character.
"In today's era of social media, it is a challenge to be able to hold a democratic party based on useful values for the community and the area where they are. Not a strong complaint against marketing, a viral battle that does not guarantee the quality of the leader," Yunarto said.
