DKI DPRD Tightens Supervision of Waste Transport Vendors, Prevent Disposal to Illegal Locations

JAKARTA - The Special Committee (Pansus) for Waste Management of the DKI Jakarta DPRD has begun to tighten supervision of the waste management chain, especially at the transportation stage. The Pansus highlighted the role of the transporter vendor so that the waste does not end up in illegal disposal sites.

The supervision emerged after the Committee reviewed waste management at three locations in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area, namely the PIK Modern Market, PIK Avenue Mall, and PIK Hospital.

Member of the Waste Management Sub-Committee of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Abdurrahman Suhaimi, said that the waste management system at the three locations was generally running well. However, the process of sorting waste from source to final disposal must be supervised thoroughly.

According to him, waste management is not enough to ensure that waste is collected and collected. The DPRD also wants to ensure that waste is taken to a legal disposal site.

"We want the disposal location to be clear and legal," said Suhaimi in his statement, Thursday, August 13.

Therefore, the sub-committee also examined the waste transport vendors used in the area. Each vendor is required to have a disposal destination that can be accounted for.

Suhaimi assessed that the weak supervision at the final stage has the potential to make waste that had previously been well managed actually be thrown into the wrong place.

"Don't let garbage be thrown into illegal places," he said.

He associated the supervision with the fire case at the illegal waste disposal site in Kramatjati, East Jakarta. The event became the attention of the Sub-Committee because it showed the risks that arise when the waste management chain is not fully supervised.

The results of the review in the PIK area will be the basis for the evaluation of the Sub-Committee in drafting recommendations for improving waste management in Jakarta. The focus of discussion includes all stages of management, from sorting, transportation, to final disposal.
