JAKARTA - The General Chair of the Indonesian Child Protection Agency (LPAI) Seto Mulyadi or Kak Seto proposed that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) form a Child Protection Section (SPARTA) in every neighborhood (RT).
The proposal was conveyed during the 42nd National Children's Day celebration at the DKI Jakarta City Hall.
According to Kak Seto, the presence of SPARTA at the RT level is a preventive step to strengthen child protection from the environment closest to the family. The program, he said, has been implemented in a number of areas since 2011.
"One of the things we want to propose is that community empowerment is very important, we have pioneered since 2011 (from) LPAI, namely SPARTA. SPARTA is the Child Protection Section at the neighborhood level," said Kak Seto, Monday, July 20.
He said that South Tangerang City became the first area to implement SPARTA in all RTs and received a MURI Record. After that, similar programs were adopted in Bekasi, North Bengkulu, and Belitung.

"We propose to the Governor of DKI Jakarta, DKI Jakarta is the first province whose entire RT is also equipped with a Child Protection Section. So in the RT there are event sections, hygiene sections, security sections, plus one more, the Child Protection Section," he said.
According to him, the existence of SPARTA will make people at the neighborhood level more quickly detect and prevent various forms of violence against children.
Responding to the proposal, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung said the DKI Provincial Government would study the idea before it was decided further.
"Kak Seto, the proposal regarding SPARTA earlier, we will study it, we will study it," said Pramono.
On the same occasion, Pramono also admitted that there were still limited facilities for children in public spaces, especially lactation rooms. According to him, the provision of lactation rooms will be the concern of the DKI Provincial Government as it strives to make Jakarta a city that is increasingly child-friendly.

Pramono emphasized that Jakarta's status as a child-friendly city must be followed by support for access to education. He said that currently the DKI Provincial Government is distributing the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) to more than 707 thousand students and the Jakarta Superior Student Card (KJMU) to around 15,900 students.
