BOGOR - The National Police is not only hunting down perpetrators of crimes in the food sector. The institution is now also beginning to monitor the distribution chain of agricultural products, including the alleged purchase of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) of palm oil below the appropriate price.
This was conveyed by the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, when reporting the achievements of the National Police to President Prabowo Subianto at the 80th Bhayangkara Day Ceremony at the Satlat Brimob Polri, Cikeas, Bogor Regency, Wednesday (1/7).
According to the National Police Chief, the Food Task Force of the National Police has the task of maintaining the availability of basic materials while ensuring the distribution of strategic commodities does not harm the community, especially farmers.
One of the steps taken is to break the distribution chain which is considered to be detrimental to farmers, including the practice of middlemen which can suppress the price of crops at the producer level.
"The Food Task Force of the National Police has a role in maintaining the availability and stability of the prices of essential staple goods, breaking the distribution chain that harms farmers such as middlemen so that they can maintain the selling price at the farmer level," said Listyo.
In addition to overseeing distribution, the National Police also handles various alleged violations related to strategic commodities such as rice, cooking oil, LPG, to subsidized fuel.
The National Police Chief revealed that one of the steps being taken was to clarify 173 palm oil companies suspected of buying fresh fruit bunches from farmers at an unreasonable price.
This step is part of efforts to maintain the stability of the food sector while ensuring farmers receive a more equitable price.
On the same occasion, the National Police Chief emphasized that the National Police would continue to support various government programs, including the food self-sufficiency agenda, through distribution supervision, assistance to farmers' groups, to law enforcement against violations that disrupt the national food supply chain.
