PADANG - The West Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office's Fugitive Capture Team (Tabur) arrested two inmates who had long been on the Missing Persons List (DPO), one of which was a case of land abuse. The arrest of the two fugitives was carried out simultaneously in West Pasaman Regency.
Assistant Intelligence of the West Sumatra Attorney General, Efendri Eka Saputra, confirmed that this hunt yielded results after his ranks sniffed out the whereabouts of the convicts who were slippery and kept moving.
"This arrest was carried out after the names of the two convicts were included in the DPO of the West Pasaman District Attorney's Office," said Efendri as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 21, 2026.
Efendri explained that the silent operation was executed by the West Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office's Ghost Bird Team, which he led directly in the field. The two inmates who were arrested were Afdi Fitra alias Abdi and Mari Ufri alias Oyong, both of whom were involved in two different criminal cases.
The convict, Afdi Fitra, was previously convicted of a crime of illegal plantation in a forest area with a sentence of one year in prison by the West Pasaman District Court in March 2022. The verdict was strengthened by the Supreme Court (MA) through a cassation decision in June 2022.
"Based on the cassation decision, the prosecutor intends to carry out the execution so that the convict can immediately serve his sentence, but at that time the convict was not known to be in the DPO," explained Efendri.
Meanwhile, the convict Mari Ufri alias Oyong has a longer record of escape. Mari Ufri was released by the West Pasaman District Court in January 2021. However, the Public Prosecutor immediately appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court then reversed the acquittal and declared Mari Ufri guilty of a one-year prison sentence in March 2021. Since the inkrah ruling came out, he immediately disappeared.
The arrest of the two fugitives is claimed to be the fruit of the consistency of law enforcement officers in monitoring the movement of DPOs in the West Sumatra region.
"The arrest of these two convicts is inseparable from the hard work of the West Sumatra Attorney's Office, which continues to monitor information and the whereabouts of the convicts, until they are finally found," said Efendri.
After detecting the exact position of the two targets, the Ghost Birds Team moved quickly from Padang City to the hiding location in West Pasaman. The two convicts were arrested persuasively without any meaningful resistance in the field.
After being secured, officers immediately escorted the two convicts to the West Pasaman Penitentiary (Lapas) to execute the Supreme Court's decision and ensure that they serve their sentences.
Efendri emphasized that the Adhyaksa corps would not relax supervision and would continue to hunt down fugitives who were still roaming freely outside.
"Immediately surrender and be held accountable for his actions in accordance with applicable laws," said Efendri, giving a stern warning to other DPOs.
