Iman Brotoseno Resigns from the Chair of TVRI President Director, Traces of Controversy Back in the Spotlight

Iman Brotoseno stated that he resigned from the position of President Director of LPP TVRI. The information surfaced after a recording of an internal online meeting circulated, where Iman was heard saying goodbye and conveying the decision to resign.

In a number of media reports, Iman said that he had first discussed the decision with his family and the Supervisory Board, while leaving a message for the TVRI management to continue the achievements that had been running.

Brief profile of Iman Brotoseno: from creative space to public broadcasting institution

Iman Brotoseno's name was known to the public before entering TVRI through his work and activities in the creative industry. A number of media profiles say he is known as a film, advertising, and documentary director, with a legal education, and has deepened his film studies abroad.

Iman was then inaugurated as the President Director of TVRI (Alternate Time/PAW) on May 27, 2020, replacing Helmy Yahya.

Since the beginning of his appointment, Iman has not only faced the managerial challenges of a public broadcasting institution, but also the spotlight on his digital track record.

1) Ever related to Playboy Indonesia

One of the most frequently arising polemics is the news that Iman was once a contributor to Playboy Indonesia. Iman admitted that he had been involved, but emphasized that the writing contained in it was related to tourism/diving coverage and did not contain pornographic elements.

2) Old tweets that are considered vulgar

The next controversy came from a screenshot of an old tweet that went viral again. In the explanation quoted by the media, Iman said that public criticism was a reminder to improve behavior and narrative in the public space, especially since he held a public office.

Following the controversy, Iman was also reported to have deactivated his personal Twitter account.

3) Personal blogs are deleted

Shortly after the tweet issue, he was also reported to have deleted his personal blog and stated that he wanted to focus on work.

4) Criticism from internal-external groups/committees

At the same time, there are parties who urge the Supervisory Board to be responsible for appointing the President Director, citing Iman's track record and the dynamics of the PAW process as part of the objection.

In an interview with VOI, Iman emphasized TVRI's position as a content house that consistently takes care of culture and tradition, including space for programs that are not always the main menu of commercial TV.

TVRI in recent years has also actively talked about adaptation - both in terms of distribution and strengthening the broadcast ecosystem. Although the implementation took place gradually, "the language of transformation" became one of the agendas that continued to be raised in his leadership period.

One of the achievements that the public can most easily capture is the 2026 World Cup broadcast rights. TVRI is reported to be the broadcast rights holder in Indonesia and will broadcast 104 matches for free (free-to-air) through TVRI Nasional and TVRI Sport.

The news of Iman's resignation on February 23, 2026, closed a chapter that was full of pull-and-tug from the beginning: between the public's expectations of TVRI as a public broadcasting institution, and the burden of personal reputation that is attached to the leadership.
