Christmas 2025, 138 Christian WBP in Cipinang Prison Receive Remission

JAKARTA - A total of 138 inmates of the Christian religion in Cipinang Class I Prison received a Special Christmas Remission 2025. This remission was given by the government as a reduction in the term of imprisonment for inmates who were considered to have good behavior and actively participated in the training program.

Head of Cipinang Class I Prison Wachid Wibowo said that remission was not a gift, but a form of recognition of the state for the process of change that inmates underwent while serving their sentences.

"Remission is not a gift, but a marker that the process of change is assessed and valued. This is a reinforcement for inmates to continue to maintain behavior and consistently improve themselves," he said in a written statement, Thursday, December 25, 2025.

Wahid assessed that remission was granted through a strict mechanism and in accordance with the rules. The entire process, he said, was carried out openly and can be held accountable, from assessing behavior to compliance with prison discipline.

"We ensure that the process is open and accountable, because coaching must be based on justice and trust," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of Cipinang Prison Development, Iwan Setiawan, said that out of a total of 178 Christian WBP, 138 people were declared eligible to receive a Special Christmas Remission 2025.

"The details are, 136 people received Special Remission I (RK I) and two people received Special Remission II (RK II)," he explained.

Iwan emphasized that remission is part of a coaching system that aims to prepare the residents to return to society with better attitudes and behaviors, not just reducing the length of the sentence.

"Remission is expected to be a bridge to a meaningful return, not just to complete serving their sentences, but to return to their families and communities with new readiness, awareness, and hope," he concluded.
