JAKARTA - Chairman of the PDI-P DPP, Andreas Hugo Pareira, said his party respects the legal process against the Regent of Bekasi, Ade Kuswara, who was entangled in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) hand-in-hand operation (OTT).

PDIP hopes that the KPK can be fair and not selective in eradicating corruption in the country.

"In principle, the PDI-P respects all legal processes," said Andreas when confirmed, Friday, December 19.

Andreas emphasized that the PDIP General Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri and other leaders had repeatedly reminded cadres not to commit corrupt acts in carrying out government duties.

"However, there is always something happening, and this time it happened to the Regent of Bekasi," he said.

Hugo also regretted that there were still cadres, especially regional heads from PDIP who were implicated in similar cases. According to him, corruption cases are the personal responsibility of a regional head.

"What is certain is that the party has never taught its cadres to be corrupt, so when cases like this occur, it is certainly a personal responsibility," he said.

Andreas ensured that PDIP would never give up educating cadres to stay away from actions that harm the people. "However, the party will not give up to continue to educate its cadres not to commit corrupt actions," he added.

When asked about legal assistance, Andreas said that the party would provide assistance if the person concerned needed it. "If you are asked for assistance in the judicial process, of course the party will go through the Party Body that deals with law," he said.

The Deputy Chairman of Commission XIII of the DPR also hopes that the KPK will carry out its functions well and be fair in handling corruption cases. "The party also hopes and always pays attention to the fact that the KPK, as a law enforcement agency, is also fair, not selective and not a political tool," said Andreas.

"Because the public also knows and sees many indications of larger cases that should be followed up. But it was kept quiet, even disappeared just like that," he concluded.

Previously, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) also secured Bekasi Regent Ade Kuswara Kunang while carrying out a hand-in-hand operation (OTT). He is one of the 10 people who were entangled.

"The Regent of Bekasi has been taken," said a source when confirmed, Thursday, December 18 evening.

The KPK officially said that 10 people had been secured by the moving team. "Yes, there is a closed investigation in the field. It is still in process," said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on a separate occasion.

"Until now, the team has secured about ten people," he continued.
