JAKARTA - The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KP2MI) has confirmed the handling of the case of a migrant worker from Temanggung, Central Java, named Art, who is suspected of having experienced severe exploitation while working in Malaysia.

In a statement on Saturday, November 22, P2MI Minister Mukhtarudin emphasized that the state will not remain silent when migrant workers are treated inhumanely or subject to exploitation abroad.

"This case is a serious concern for us. The state will ensure that every migrant worker gets full protection and recovery of his rights," said Mukhtarudin, ANTARA, Sunday, November 23.

He added that the KP2MI and the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Kuala Lumpur had taken quick steps, including sending diplomatic notes to the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, so that the case could get full attention from local authorities.

Legal assistance to victims is provided through a lawyer appointed by the Bar Council Malaysia.

KP2MI and the Indonesian Embassy also provide direct assistance to Art, facilitate communication with their families, and issue Passport Travel Letters (SPLP) for victims.

Mukhtarudin emphasized the commitment of the ministry he leads to ensure that the legal process runs transparently and in favor of justice, and continues to coordinate with Malaysian authorities until the case is completed.

He appealed to the public to always use official placement channels and report if they find violence, exploitation, or fraud in the process of placing migrant workers.

Art works for more than 20 years as a household worker with excessive working hours without receiving a salary and adequate rest from employers.
