Cakung Residents Ask The Government To Build Embung To Prevent Floods

Residents of the Jalan Pool PPD area, RT 02/007, West Cakung Village, Cakung District, East Jakarta, urged the government to immediately build reservoirs or small reservoirs to anticipate flooding.

According to local residents, although in recent years the inundation has decreased, residents assess that the existence of reservoirs remains important as a water management controller in the midst of rapid infrastructure development in the area.

According to Jainal, one of the local residents, although the waterways and drainage have been repaired since the planned construction of the International Hospital, residents still hope that the reservoir will be built to ensure that the area remains safe from the risk of seasonal flooding.

"If you want to build reservoirs or reservoirs, I really agree. I just have to look at the land. The land is already dense here, but if it can be realized, it is very good for the residents," Jainal told reporters, Tuesday, November 11.

Jainal said he hoped that the government would quickly realize reservoirs for residents.

"If possible, the government will quickly realize the reservoir. Now it's safe, but who knows, the flood will return again," he said.

Meanwhile, Nuraini (61), another resident who owns a rice stall in the area, assessed that the construction of reservoirs is more urgent than the hospital project.

"If possible, the reservoir should be built so that it doesn't flood," said Nuraini.

According to him, the existence of reservoirs is an important solution for controlling rainwater.

"The problem is that if the flood comes, everything will be affected," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of RT 02/07, Ahmad Nur alias Enung said the construction of the reservoir was still included in the spatial planning plan with the road widening project and the construction of the International Hospital.

"In the past there had been a meeting in the village, discussions about access to hospitals and plans for reservoirs. So later the vehicle lane will be rearranged so that it is not crowded. Road widening has also been included in the plan," he said.

According to Enung, the strengthening work of the river sheet pile at RT 09 is also part of the great efforts of structuring the area to be more organized and resistant to potential flooding in the future.

"From the map, it will be good. There is a sheet pile, there is a reservoir, there is widening of the road as well," he said.

Residents hope that the East Jakarta City Government and the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Service (SDA) will immediately follow up on this aspiration through field surveys and determination of reservoir locations.

Residents emphasized that the construction of reservoirs remains an urgent need to maintain water management stability, especially in the face of the rainy season and increasing development in the West Cakung region.
