The Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the Riau Islands Police is investigating seven crew members (ABK) of the MT Shing Xing ship which had been adrift for months in Myanmar waters in the alleged illegal TIP or PMI.

"This investigation is related to the investigation into the alleged illegal TIP or PMI experienced by seven ABKs, we are currently investigating," said Head of Sub-Directorate IV for Law Enforcement of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) of the Riau Islands Police, AKBP Andyka Aerdilansir ANTARA, Friday, November 7.

The seven crew members consisted of four Batam residents, one from Karimun Regency, one from Manado and another from Medan.

The seven crew members were flown from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Batam and only landed on Thursday (6/11) night.

"We immediately picked them up at Hang Nadim Airport," he said.

Arriving in Batam, four crew members who came from Batam immediately met their families, while the other three people were provided with lodging.

The day after returning, the seven crew members came to the Riau Islands Police to provide information regarding the events they experienced while working at MT Shing Xing until they were adrift in Myanmar waters since July 2025.

Previously, investigators from Sub-Directorate IV of the Riau Islands Police had investigated the alleged illegal TPPO and PMI experienced by the 7 crew members of MT Shing Xing, since the video of their request for help when they were adrift for months at sea.

The crew members were recruited by a person named Juanda, who is a resident of Batam. The seven crew members departed from Batam to Belawan on May 5, 2025, as crew members of the MT Shing Xing ship for docking purposes in Malaysia.

However, due to the high cost of docking in Malaysia, the ship was diverted to Myanmar. However, when it arrived in Myanmar waters the ship was not allowed to docking because the ship's license was incomplete.

After the video of the crew asking for help went viral on social media, the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon tried to save the seven AKBs.

On Wednesday (15/10), the Indonesian Embassy in Yangon submitted a Diplomatic Note to the Myanmar Ministry of Foreign Affairs asking for permission so that the seven Indonesian crew members could 'sing off' and return to Indonesia.

The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon has also provided food supply assistance and medical assistance for the seven crew members before being sent home.

In addition, representatives from the Republic of Indonesia have met specifically with the agency and ship owners and discussed intensively to ensure the fulfillment of the rights of Indonesian crew members.

Shipowners MT Shing Xing have stated in writing their ability to fulfill all obligations to crew members, including payment of salaries, logistics costs and repatriation fees.

The names of the seven crew members of MT Shing Xing are Septia Riski, Heriyansah, Wilem Padoma, Sudiyanto from Batam, Dede Kustendy from Karimun Regency, Syukri from Medan, and Roland Mamuko from Manado.
