Lorentz National Park Crosses 10 Papua Regencies, KLH Admits To Puncak Trikora Rules Not Yet Organized

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Environment (KLH) ensures that the supervision of the Lorentz National Park goes well in maintaining and protecting the natural resources (SDA) in it.

Head of the Lorentz National Park Office, Manuel Mirino, said that the main duties and functions or functions of this institution are only focused on the supervision and protection of the Lorentz National Park.

"Our Lorentz National Park supervision includes security, utilization and routine supervision of the area that we carry out in protecting the natural resources in it," he said in Wamena, Thursday, was confiscated by Antara.

According to him, specifically for security supervision, it is not carried out actively or strongly, but rather to preventive ones.

"The way of approach that we take in our monitoring pattern is how to maintain communication, coordination with good communities and activities carried out in the Lorentz National Park area in terms of protection," he said.

He explained that in every independent activity and together with partnerships related to empowerment within the Lorentz National Park area, his party always involves the local community.

"We also have the task of protecting and securing areas from various threats, controlling the impact of natural resources damage and forest fires, as well as developing and utilizing sustainable plants, wildlife and environmental services non-commercially," he said.

He added that the area of the Lorentz National Park is 2.4 million hectares which covers 10 districts from three provinces, namely Central Papua, Mountains Papua and South Papua.

"We have a main task force only in the Lorentz National Park area which includes three regions, namely Central Papua Province, Papua Mountains and South Papua, in which there are 10 regencies," he said.

He stated that tourists who usually visit the Lorentz National Park are grouped into special interest tourism.

"For example, if in Wamena special interest is usually tourists visiting Puncak Trikora, one of the highest mountains in Jayawijaya Regency. However, with the situation and conditions where there are special interest tourism, it cannot be regulated properly," he said.

Meanwhile, the death of one of the climbers in the Lorentz National Park area some time ago in the Cartenz Mountains in the Mimika Regency area, he said, was a disaster.

"We can convey again, in that disaster standard operating procedures or SOPs have been carried out properly, the incident was a disaster. The incident occurred because the victim was also 60 years old and over, and special interest tourism remained open according to the specified procedure," he said.
