JAKARTA - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka emphasized that he did not want the assumption that the Papua region was a place of exile, but part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) which must be given special attention.

Gibran explained that his working visit in Manokwari, West Papua, after visiting Jayapura and Merauke in the previous month, was a follow-up to President Prabowo's directives to accelerate development in Papua.
While chairing a plenary meeting, Gibran requested that two special government institutions be formed, namely the Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy Development for Papua (BP3OKP) and the Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy Development in Papua, could explore local economic potential.
