JAKARTA - Iran canceled a cooperation agreement it signed with the UN nuclear watchdog agency, the IAEA, in September, according to Iran's Highest Secretary of the National Security Council Ali Larijani on Monday.
The statement comes about three weeks after Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran would cancel the agreement, allowing the IAEA to continue inspection of its nuclear site, if Western countries reimpose UN sanctions.
This confirmation will be a setback for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) which has been working to rebuild cooperation with Tehran since Israel and the United States bombed the nuclear site in June.
"The agreement has been canceled," Ali Larijani said during a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart in Tehran, according to state media.
"Of course, if the agency has a proposal, we will review it at the secretariat," he added.

It is known that the UN sanctions against Iran for the first time returned to effect in the past decade at the end of last month, after Britain, France, and Germany (E3) activated the snapshot mechanism on the grounds that Tehran violated the nuclear deal.
The sanction prohibits activities related to Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs and is expected to have a broad impact on the country's economy.
