BOGOR - The Cijeruk Sector Police, Bogor Regency, West Java, arrested a man with the initials H (53) who claimed to be a habib and asked to force three sarongs belonging to the students at one of the Islamic boarding schools in Ciburuy Village, Cigombong District.

The fraud had made residents restless until the perpetrators were finally secured by the authorities on Tuesday, October 14.

The Head of Cijeruk Police, AKP Didin Komarudin, explained that the case began when the perpetrator came to the pesantren on Saturday night, claiming to be a habib, and asked for a sarong from the students under the pretext of worship.

"Because they felt reluctant and respected their status as habib, the students gave three used sarongs that were requested. However, after that, residents began to suspect and trace the truth of the perpetrator's confession," said Didin in Bogor.

After a search was carried out, residents found that the man did not have the habaib lineage as he admitted. Information on the whereabouts of the perpetrators is known to be in the Caringin area, so residents and local religious leaders took the initiative to find and meet him.

When asked about the habaib tree, the perpetrator was unable to answer clearly. This condition made residents furious, and there was even tension at the location before the Caringin Police came to secure the situation.

The officers then brought the perpetrator and evidence of three sarongs to the Caringin Police for initial investigation, before finally being handed over to the Cijeruk Police because the location of the incident was initially in their jurisdiction.

"The perpetrator admitted that he was named Heru, a resident of Parakan Salak District, Sukabumi Regency. After we conducted the interrogation, it was found out that the person concerned had a history of mental disorders," said Didin.

Similar information was obtained from his ex-wife in Sukabumi who said the perpetrator was depressed after studying certain incomplete knowledge. The police then coordinated with the family for further handling.

Meanwhile, the pesantren stated that they would not take this case to court. They only asked that the three sarongs belonging to the students be returned and the perpetrators did not come back to the pesantren.

The Cijeruk Police mediated between the two parties at the police station. During the mediation, the perpetrator handed back three sarongs to the students and apologized for his actions.

"We have resolved this case amicably because there was no significant material loss. The person concerned has also been handed back to his family," said the police chief.
