Government Prepares Acquisition Of Arrears In BPJS Health Contributions

Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment (Menko PM) Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar stated that the government is preparing concrete steps to free the public from the burden of BPJS Kesehatan due arrears whose value reaches tens of trillions of rupiah.

"I continue to try to get the debt arrears of all BPJS participants to be immediately released. So it is not considered a debt anymore. Good luck next month. After the arrears are paid off by the government, all participants can start new contributions," said Muhaimin in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, October 2.

The statement was made when he gave a speech at the First Junior High School 19 in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

According to Muhaimin, this step is part of the government's big agenda in strengthening social safety nets, especially for vulnerable groups of people.

"This is a form of state presence. Do not let the small people cannot access health services just because there are long arrears. After the arrears problem is resolved, we encourage the awareness of new contributions so that this system can be sustainable," he said.

Muhaimin emphasized that the release of arrears does not mean that participants are irresponsible.

"In fact, on the contrary, this step is intended to provide new opportunities so that participants can return to contribute and BPJS Health services will continue to run well," he said.

Ia menambahkan, rencana kebijakan ini diharapkan memberi harapan baru bagi jutaan peserta BPJS yang selama ini terkendala mengakses layanan kesehatan akibat status kepesertaan nonaktif.

He added that this policy plan is expected to provide new hope for millions of BPJS participants who have been constrained by accessing health services due to inactive membership status.
