JAKARTA - The Ministry of Human Rights (Kemenham) supports the efforts made by an independent team of fact-finding demonstrations and riots at the end of August formed by six human rights state institutions (HAM).

"They are working to implement the provisions of the law," said the Director General of Human Rights Services and Compliance at the Ministry of Human Rights Munafrizal Manan in Jakarta, Friday, as reported by Antara.

According to Manan, with the independent team from LN HAM, the discourse on forming a fact-finding team from the government side that had previously been discussed was no longer continued.

"We have to respect that there are human rights institutions that are already working to do that," he said.

Meanwhile, when asked whether or not it was necessary to establish a pro-judiciary investigation team, Manan said the six human rights institutions actually had clear legal force.

"Six human rights institutions were formed by law. Their duties and functions are in the law, they are really very strong, like Komnas HAM, they can be quasi-judial. Technically, we don't want to enter because it's an independent area of the human rights institution," he said.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto was confirmed not to form a joint fact-finding team (TGPF) related to the demonstration that led to riots at the end of August 2025.

The Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra explained that the step was taken because the President welcomed the initiative of six human rights LN to form a non-ustussian investigation team.

"So the President invited the six human rights state institutions to work to conduct an investigation, to find out the facts about what happened behind the demonstration," said Yusril when met at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, September 17.

The six LN HAMs are referred to, namely the National Commission (Komnas) HAM, Komnas Perempuan, the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), the National Commission for Disabilities (KND), the Indonesian Ombudsman, and the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK).

Komnas HAM chairman Anis Hidayah during a press conference at his office, Jakarta, Friday, September 12, said that the formation of an independent team was an effort and commitment of each human rights institution to find facts and draw up comprehensive reports.

"The goal of this team in addition to looking for facts is how to explore a number of information related to the victim's situation, what the government has done, and what we have to recommend later to encourage openness regarding truth, justice, recovery for the victims," said Anis.

The establishment of an independent team of LN HAM was announced at the Komnas HAM Office, Friday, September 12. Anis said that the team formation was not based on the President's instructions, but was purely the initiative of each institution.

The day before that, Thursday 11 September, President Prabowo was said to have approved the proposal of civil society groups, including the Nation Conscience Movement (GNB), to form an independent commission of investigations to investigate events of demonstrations and riots.
